The Archaeological Park of Maipés is one of the most representative archaeological and aboriginal burial in Gran Canaria. The cemetery has almost 700 tombs and is located on mounds of volcanic material (malpaís) of 3000 years of antiquity.
The tombs reach eight meters in diameter and three meters in height. In its interior we can find vegetal fibers of reeds at the bottom and in the part superior they were decorated with several stones of colors, usually red or yellow.
In 1974 the site was declared of Cultural Interest with the category of Archaeological Zone.
Entrance costs Only 3 eur pp an dit is so worth it!! Very enjoyable archaeological site
Accessible for wheelchair and baby wagons.
Very cleverly designed, with arrows built for orientation and the pointing watch points.
Free toilets, also accessible for wheelchair users.
Not clear to me who is buried here. The information board said aboriginal people, but who is that? African people?

An interesting place to visit, the design of the walk ways and building is impressive they fit seamlessly into the landscape whilst also creating a contrast to the lava.
Information boards good. 2 euros to get in worth a visit.
An amazing place and an easy, well signed walk from the centre of Agaete. Only €3 entry and lots to see on a well maintained path. Lots of information boards in Spanish and very well translated English.
This is well worth visiting - it is very interesting to learn about the ancient graves but also a beautiful place, with views of the valley and mountains.
La necropolis de Maipes is an archaeological park located in the northwest of Gran Canaria in the town of Agaete. There is a parking lot nearby. The entrance fee is 3 euros, and tickets are also valid for the Necropolis of Artear, Canada de lo Gatos and Cenobio de Valeron. The employees are very kind and accommodating. A beautifully landscaped path has been created that leads to the archaeological museum where you can see sections of the tombs and imagine what they look like from the inside. In the archaeological park itself, there are about 700 tombs, some of which are around 1300 years old, which is why they represent an exceptional historical value for the inhabitants of Gran Canaria. Sami park is a combination of gray earth and green vegetation and it looks very beautiful.
