In his own words, Bar el Perola: «The only bar in the world where the customer is never right». This charismatic bar in Agaete with more than 30 years of history is famous for its “botellines” (beer) and peanuts, although you can also find other dishes such as meatballs, potato omelette, “sancocho” (typical canary food )or salad, always with a great atmosphere.
We were guided by the opinion and it was a mistake!!! We had to wait a very long time for the food. There were three of us and once someone got their dish, the other person still had to wait 30 minutes. After asking the waiter "how long do I have to wait for my meal" he responded by getting rowdy. Apart from the fact that the waiter smelled of alcohol. At the very beginning, the waiter scattered peanuts on the table, which was unclean. The food was not tasty, my dish was very oily. When the tourists came, the waiters put up a sign saying that they only accept card payments. After receiving the bill, we were shocked. Where does this price come from? The waiter couldn't explain and started adding peanuts per person and bread, which was already included in the price, and a small water for €4. We did not receive the receipt. The worst place I've been to on the island
Great local tapas.
Thanks to the local who tipped us on visiting and enjoy El Perola’s mother kitchen.
The ropa vieja (chickpeas casserole), tuna croquettes and the meatballs were superb.
The little bar is like going back 50 years ago but with charm from the owner (El Perolas) and a clean kitchen, not even mentioning the prices for all we asked.
Worth going and enjoying the whole experience.
Tip: stay ‘al fresco’, seating on the little stone benches outside the bar and feel the local life passing by.
As we were waiting for a table, the waiter ignored us. When we finally got a table, he first served three other new customert, even though they came after us. They got their Drinks before we even ordered anything. We waited 40 minutes for the waiter to even ask what we want to drink, but he never did. And he knew we were there because he just gave us a card, seemed not nice, and left to serve orher customers. 40 minutes waiting for nothing, we left, and no one acknowledged us. Not recommended!!
No set price for beer. We were cheated when we had to pay. Took extra of our change and told us that some nuts thrown on the table cost 2 euros. Rude and unfriendly. Takes only cash. Steer away.
